DZIQ: Be wary of social networking invites, PDEA reiterates – Inquirer.net
MANILA, PhilippinesThe Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency on Wednesday reiterated their warning for Filipinos to be wary of foreigners adding them on social networking sites and chat rooms. In a Radyo Inquirer interview, PDEA spokesman Derek Carreon said that this is in accordance to their plans to shift to a preventive stance against the African drug syndicate that has been recruiting Filipinos as drug couriers. Carreon said that drug syndicate members use social networking sites and chat rooms to befriend potential drug mule recruits which are commonly women. However, from 2000 to 2001, the numbers spiked to 266 cases and the statistic has been steadily increasing ever since, Carreon said. The statement came hours before the execution of Elizabeth Batain, 38, Sally Villanueva, 32 and Ramon Credo, 42 who were convicted of heroin smuggling in China in 2009. click here to read more
