We used the atomic bomb because Japan was loading balloons up filled with the bubonic plague to send them over to America. If it succeeded, they estimated we would have lost roughly 75 million people with a bubonic outbreak. Furthermore, the casualties would have been higher if we invaded because Japs fight to the last man. Their casualties would have been in the millions rather than 600,000

@moviemakerrules Yea, its was the Russians who lost a ton of soldiers in Berlin who really did it. It seems like America always gets out of battles that would require huge losses like sending in the Russians in Berlin and using the Atomic bomb on Japan (rather than invade it).

The Russians were the ones that ultimately defeat Germany, yet the U.S. never talk about it.

This is an extraordinary television series called the World At War narrated by Sir Laurence Olivier. I have the DVD set and for anyone with an interest in history this is a must have documentary. The making of the series is also very informative and comes with the DVD box set.
