Yale Delays Switch to Google Apps, Cites Security Concerns
Each piece of information gets stored in three randomly chosen data centers around the world, and Google was unwilling to provide a list of the countries Yale’s data might go to — only a list of 15 countries where the data was guaranteed not to be sent. Do you think Yale has a point — does Google need to give organizations and businesses more control and information about the location and security of their data if they hope to see wider adoption of Google Apps? That and some decision made by the Board of Trustees to not raise salaries enough or to only contribute X amount to their 403(b) in one year is unpopular, so they universally oppose any initiative that the school takes. I think I understand both points of view– Yale wanting to be “in the know” in regard to security, and Google wanting to keep things random to promote security– but I think Yale is being a little on the whiny side. click here to read more
